With budget cuts looming for schools stemming from revenue loss tied to a state shutdown during the coronavirus pandemic, Alft supports taxing the rich to make up for the deficit. He also supports a universal basic income and collection of a stock transfer tax.

Republican

Supports repealing the state’s bail reform laws, protecting vulnerable residents, promoting family farms, and protecting the character of small towns and communities.

Michelle Hinchey
Democrat

Supports the expansion of service and technology industries, including green and renewable energy in order to bring more jobs to the state. Also supports strengthening the education system by increasing access to technology particularly in rural areas.

Gary Greenberg (write-in)
Democrat

Supports the New York Health Act and healthcare for all, increased funding to hospitals, and evidence-based public policy. Supports expanding broadband access across the state, no new taxes, and looking for a solution to the state’s shrinking population.

Katko hasn’t taken position on 2nd Trump impeachment

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR) — Republican Congressman John Katko hasn't shared his specific position on the pending second impeachment of outgoing President Donald Trump.

Monday, a resolution with a singular article of impeachment was introduced in the House of Representative, accusing President Trump of "willfully inciting violence against the government of the United States" and will "remain a threat to national security, democracy, and the Constitution."

Public safety reform: Governor Cuomo’s requirement from police stations for state funding in 2021

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — During the first installment of the 2021 State of the State, Governor Cuomo spoke about several “flaws” that have surfaced during the “low-tide” of this past year. Cuomo also narrowed in on the need to repair the deep schisms between minority communities and police departments.

“Last year, exposed the tensions between the community and the police more starkly than ever before,” Cuomo said. “This is a national crisis. Feelings are deep and complex; emotions run high on both sides.”
