3/21 Late night weather

Get Ready-High Impact Storm…..

For most areas tonight….rain will have the upper hand….after midnight Wet snow will mix in and then change to all snow west of the Hudson Valley-Catskills/Hilltowns and Adirondacks.

By Morning…even in the Capital Region we may see some mixing with wet snow, but not sticking much.  By Contrast…very heavy snow will fall to the w est..especially at elevations above 1,000 feet…East of the Hudson…A mix in the valleys…but the higher elevations of the Berkshires and  Vermont Mountains will have heavy wet snow.

The storm will track from NYC to Boston…then up along the Maine Coast rapidly intensifying.  This will produce a strong backlash…wrap around moisture.  In Fact, there will likely be heavy Upslope snows dev late afternoon into the night for the Taconic Hills-Berkshires-Southern Green Mountains and the Western Catskills…and Northern Adirondacks.

It will be much lighter in Valley locations.

Here is the Snowfall Map….Notice the tight gradient of snow accumlations and this is through 8am on Saturday.

Behind the storm….STRONG winds develop Friday night/Saturday….NW gusting over 50mph.  We will have to worry about power outages where there is heavy snow…especially on pine trees that hold the snow.

It will be much better on Sunday.

We will keep you updated.
