ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Police are investigating an auto/pedestrian crash that happened overnight Sunday into Monday on I-787 in the area of exit 1. Noella Boucher, an 82-year-old woman from Canada, was retrieving her dog and was struck by a car. She was declared dead at the scene.
Police say the driver stopped immediately and live-saving efforts on the woman were unsuccessful. Her dog was found a short distance away and succumbed to its injuries as well. Police say no criminal charges are expected against the driver, who was uninjured.
All lanes were shut down as police investigated. Traffic at the time was diverted to the thruway at exit one on the southbound side. This investigation is ongoing.
