GUILDERLAND, N.Y.(NEWS10) — Guilderland police confirm that an unconscious man found Saturday morning at Crossgates mall died. Lt. Joseph DeVoe said that they rushed to the scene around 9 a.m. responding to a call from mall security.

“Our police and EMS ride within minutes they located the male and they found him unconscious not breathing,” said DeVoe. He said that a mall patron was the first to discover the Hispanic man—said to be in his 50s—on the ground and unresponsive.

“[EMS] began providing life-saving measures which ultimately, he was declared deceased,” said DeVoe. Police said the body was taken to the Albany County Coroner’s office.

“Albany County Coroner’s office scheduled the autopsy and once we hear back we will attend the autopsy,” said DeVoe. He said that the death does not appear suspicious and that there does not seem to be any foul play.

The mall’s administration and security team has not responded to NEWS10’s request for comment. We asked about when the mall doors are locked, and whether the man was an employee or a patron—as folks are allowed to walk at Crossgates in the early hours. It remains unclear what the man was doing or for how long he was there.

Due to the nature of previous events at the mall, NEWS10 wants to be very clear that this particular incident is unrelated. Information is limited and the name of the dead man has not been released. Stick with NEWS10 on air and online for the latest developments.
