Derrek Thomas said he expected his name to be called on the final day of the NFL draft. When the final pick was made on Saturday, Thomas was left waiting by his phone.
The Bishop Maginn grad didn’t have to wait long for good news. Shortly after the draft was over he agreed to a undrafted free agent deal with Seattle.
“You know I never had it easy I had to work through high school, I had to work through prep school, I had to work through college Temple and Baylor, I got to work again. It’s cool cause it’s what I do so I know where I’m going to be at the end, so I’m happy I can’t complain about nothing.”
Thomas said Seattle was his preferred destination all along.
