Wishes Come True: 8-year-old learns he’s going to Disney at Lebanon Valley

News 10 has partnered with Make-A-Wish of Northeast New York for a new segment we’re calling ‘Wishes Come True.’ Each month we’ll be bringing you the story of a child whose wish has been granted.

This is something you’re only going to see on NEWS10 ABC!

Our first story involves a young boy named Nathan.

Nathan spent the first 20 weeks of his life in the NICU and continues to struggle to live a “normal” life. Nathan and his parents recently visited us at the NEWS10 studios to talk about having his wish granted.

Nathan Webster is 8-years-old. He loves anything fast. He’s a big racing fan, which is why Lebanon Valley Speedway was the perfect backdrop for him to find out that his wish to visit Disney World had been granted.

“I’m really excited! There’s cheetah’s there!” said Nathan.

Nathan was born with a series of birth defects affecting his respiratory and digestive systems. He’s susceptible to pneumonia, which he comes down with multiple times a year, and requires monthly trips to a specialty clinic in Cincinnati.

“It’s a constant struggle of him running out of energy, having very low stamina and not being able to keep up with the other kids,” said Matthew Webster, Nathan’s father.

Traveling can be a challenge, but the family of five is looking forward to spending time together in the Magic Kingdom.

“Nathan said it was the best day of his life and that was just the wish reveal. His wish is still coming. So I can only imagine how amazing Disney is going to be,” his mother, Laura said.

“It’s a very humbling experience. With all the negativity you hear in the world, it’s nice to have so many people reach out that just want to do something nice,” his dad continued.

Of course none of it would be possible without people like us. Make-a-wish, as you know, depends solely on private donations to make kids’ dreams come true. And for the team here in the Northeast New York chapter, that’s over a million dollars’ worth of wishes a year!

“Our chapter covers the 15 counties that make up the 518 area code. Geographically we’re about the same size as Vermont or New Hampshire and we’re granting about 100 wishes per year,” said William Trigg III, Make-A-Wish Northeast NY CEO.
