Data shows that Vermont now has fewer substance abuse counselors than back in 2017 when Governor Phil Scott made growing the number of counselors a priority.

Governor Scott’s administration had previously simplified the state licensing process to become a counselor to meet the shortage of professionals throughout the state.

Vermont has a little more than 575 counselors, more than 100 less than 2017.
