TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Northern Drive between Fifth and Eighth Avenues remains closed due to a water main break. Motorists are being asked to use a detour on Cemetery Road and Gurley Avenue. The city has issued a boil water advisory after restoring service.

Troy’s Department of Public Utilities put the boil water advisory in effect Monday afternoon. They said North Troy and Lansingburgh residents who experienced a loss of water pressure should boil their water before consuming it. They specifically affected the following areas as under the advisory:

• 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th Avenues
• M, N, O and R Streets
• Corliss Park Apartments (Troy Housing Authority)

Those households should let water for drinking or cooking boil for one minute and let it cool before using, or use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health. After water service is restored, customers who experience discolored water should run their cold water faucet for five to 10 minutes, until it runs clear.

The city said crews are currently working on repairing the water main and that emergency services have been notified of traffic restrictions.
