Times Union Center project groundbreaking begins Wednesday

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Some major renovations are coming to the Times Union Center.

Crews will be lifting their hammers to break ground on the project on Wednesday.

Back in February, more than $15 million was approved to update the front exterior, atrium, and parking garage entrance.

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy says the money will help keep the TU a premier facility for the area.

The design is expected to take five months to complete.

This comes after Senator Chuck Schumer and Congressman Paul Tonko are pushing for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament to be held at the Times Union Center in March. Earlier this year, the games were pulled from North Carolina in protest of its LGBT bathroom law.
