SUNY Student Assembly members gather to support the "ban the box" movement
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (NEWS10) - Members of the SUNY Student Assembly were at the Hilton in Saratoga Springs to support a movement called 'ban the box'.
Currently, colleges require students to reveal their criminal history during the application process. However, people who support "banning the box" want to ban the practice of making an applicant check a box if they have a criminal background.
They said criminal history is unfair and puts up a barrier to higher education. But, those who oppose the movement said schools have a right to know who is applying to their school.
