ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Forensic DNA has a strong past and future in the Capital Region. Since the arrest of Joseph DeAngelo last year solved Northern California’s Golden State Killer case using DNA, the same mehtods have been used to solve more than 40 other similar cases.
This was all made possible following a case in the 1980s in Albany County. The first ever case with a murder conviction using DNA was in the trial of George Wesley.
What’s more, the New York State Crime Lab continues to work on the evolution of using DNA evidence every day. Experts there say many cases, including the Golden State Killer, would not have been solved if not for DNA.
