LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A stretch of Route 9 near Siena College reopened after a water main break.
The foreman said it wouldn’t be a quick repair. Crews were expected to remain at the break for several hours adding delays to an already busy and often congested commuter road.
A 10-inch water main ruptured around midnight Monday morning.
Crews had to be careful not to knick the gas line while they tried to access the water main.
The line runs along Route 9/New Loudon Road between Springwood Manor Drive and Turner Lane.
They’ve seen quite a few of these breaks in recent weeks.
Crews say that a project to replace the 1940s vintage piping was approved and is set to be replaced by the end of the year.
In the meantime, crews are asking drivers to be patient.
They’re using the middle turning lane as a temporary southbound lane and those traveling northbound are taking up much of the shoulder as they pass by.
A couple dozen homes nearby homes and businesses were without water for a period of time.
