SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Police are on the scene at the Mohawk River in Schenectady and Scotia. The New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team confirmed that they were requested to help investigate a body found in the river.
Police tape is up, and boats have launched into the water. Multiple crews responded to the call that came in just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police have confirmed a body was recovered and that it’s an active crime scene.
Schenectady Police Chief Eric Clifford said they are not able to share the sex or condition of the body at this time.
“This is an active crime scene,” he said. “Right now, whenever we find a body in the river, we consider it a crime scene. So we have to gather evidence.”
Authorities have been combing the Mohawk for months looking for any sign of missing teen Samantha Humphrey. She was first reported missing on Nov. 27, 2022.
