RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) — The city of Rutland is now the owner of a former college athletic center after closing on the facility this week.
Voters authorized the $1.45 million bond for the building in November, about a year after the Recreation and Parks Department started using it, the Rutland Herald reported. The city had also secured $350,000 toward the $1.8 million purchase price.
A credit union took possession of the former College of St. Joseph property in 2019 after efforts to reopen the campus as an innovation center failed, the newspaper reported.
Recreation Superintendent Kim Peters said she has a variety of plans for the property this summer. Little League baseball will use the field behind the building, and a marked-off section of field will be for open soccer, she said.
There is potential for some walking trails but that has not yet been decided, she said. Summer concerts have also been discussed but the department is waiting to see what happens with COVID-19 restrictions, she said.
