President Trump releases statement calling on Americans to “help ease tensions and calm tempers”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WIVB)– The White House Office of the Press Secretary released a statement from President Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon addressing reports of more demonstrations across the U.S.

The statement from President Trump urges demonstrators to not engage in violence, lawbreaking or vandalism.

“In light of reports of more demonstrations, I urge that there must be NO violence, NO lawbreaking and NO vandalism of any kind. That is not what I stand for, and it is not what America stands for. I call on ALL Americans to help ease tensions and calm tempers. Thank You.”

Bennington fire started after resident improperly disposed of stove ashes

BENNINGTON, Vt. (NEWS10) - On Jan. 18 at around 7:37 p.m., the Bennington Police Department received a report of smoke inside the residence of 306 Safford Street in Bennington. The Bennington Fire Department was sent to the building.

Upon arrival, there was heavy smoke inside the residence. The building quickly ignited and flames were exiting the rear windows on the first floor. The fire began to grow by expanding to the exterior of the building and up to the roof. Ultimately, the building was saved with fire damage contained to the rear of the building and roof.

Music stars slam UK’s ‘shameful’ failure on EU touring rules

LONDON (AP) — Dozens of U.K. music stars including Elton John, Ed Sheeran and conductor Simon Rattle say musicians have been “shamefully failed” by the British government, which has left them facing post-Brexit restrictions on touring in the European Union.

In a letter published Wednesday in the Times of London, more than 100 musicians including Sting, Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and Roger Daltrey of The Who, along with the heads of major arts institutions, said the new U.K.-EU trade deal that took effect Jan. 1 has “a gaping hole where the promised free movement for musicians should be.”

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Tops Friendly Markets is kicking off this year’s Check Out Hunger campaign. To start off the campaign, $25,000 was donated by an anonymous couple in Williamsville. Tops has matched this donation in hopes to springboard momentum.

Check Out Hunger benefits participating food banks. It begins Sunday, Jan. 24 and runs through Saturday, Feb. 13. Since 2006, Tops has raised over $4,519,740 for those who are food insecure.
