COBLESKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A man was arrested on numerous criminal and traffic charges relating to a traffic stop on Plaza Lane in Cobleskill Sunday morning.
The incident happened at around 3 a.m.
Police say an officer stopped Brice Cummings, 21, of Cobleskill, after he was spotted driving without his lights on.
During the stop, Cummings is accused of refusing to give his information to officer Steve Winegard.
When Winegard attempted to show Cummings that his lights were off, he is accused of trying to flee from the traffic stop.
Winegard then tried to stop Cummings from leaving the scene and police say Cummings drove away with the officer clinging to the side of the vehicle. The officer was pulled alongside the vehicle for about 40 yards before falling to the ground.
Other officers then tried to stop Cummings, but Cummings is accused of continuing and failing to comply.
Police were able to stop Cummings at the intersection of North Grand Street and Maple Road, after Cummings lost control of his vehicle and struck a stone wall.
Cummings was taken into custody without incident.
Police say Cummings and Winegard were not injured in the incident.
Cummings was charged with driving while intoxicated, 2nd degree reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, and reckless driving (all misdemeanors); as well as the traffic infractions of failure to comply with a police officer, consuming an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, refusal to take a breath test, two counts of speeding, failure to keep right, improper turn, and several equipment violations.
Cummings was arraigned and posted $1,500 cash bail. He is due back in court on Tuesday.
