HALFMOON, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say two men are being charged after they allegedly mugged an elderly woman in a Walmart parking lot as she was on her way to her husband’s gravestone to deliver him flowers.

Officials say the elderly female victim was loading her groceries and purchases into her vehicle on Wednesday, including flowers for her deceased husband’s grave-site. When she turned her back to load her car, 22-year-old Paul Filkins of Malta and 26-year-old Aaron Griffin of Round Lake were driving past and swerved toward her vehicle, nearly hitting her and snatching her purse right out of her cart.

Police say Filkins and Griffin then fled the area, and were soon spotted by a deputy on Guideboard Road. The cop pulled them over and conducted an investigation. Filkins and Griffin were then taken into custody.

Filkins was operating the vehicle, and was charged with Reckless Endangerment for nearly hitting the victim with his car. Both Filkins and Griffin were also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The elderly woman was treated at the scene by Clifton Park/Halfmoon EMS and her purse was recovered by the arresting deputy, and her belongings were also returned.

Both defendants were arraigned in Halfmoon Town Court and remanded with bail of $2500 cash/$5000 bond. They are scheduled to appear in Halfmoon Town Court on a later date.
