PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) – According to the Berkshire County DA’s office, a 39-year-old man died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, police received a call for a shooting on John Street in the area of Durant Park. Police found Paul Henry on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death was ruled a homicide.
Neighbors said a large Fourth of July celebration takes place in the area every year. One neighbor said they saw an argument between two men and alleges that one man shot Henry.
Pittsfield police nor the district attorney’s office would confirm that account.
Neighbors said the party settled down around 11 p.m. and not long after is when they heard gunshots.
Some neighbors, who did not want to be identified, afraid for their safety, said they thought the shots were fireworks until they saw a body lying in the street.
Tensions arose on John Street between Pittsfield police, and neighbors who are concerned and wondering if police are searching for a suspect.
The DA’s office is handling the investigation. They would not answer any questions but are asking anyone with information to call police at (413) 448-9705.
