People of Hoosick Falls concerned after some water deliveries stop

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Saint Gobain has taken over water delivery for those in need, but some say they haven’t been getting any at all.

“I did not get a letter saying I was getting cut off any list,” Loreen Hackett, of Hoosick Falls, said.

“My question is who made the judgment in the first place that I was not to receive any more water and why?” an anonymous Hoosick Falls resident said.

Some in Hoosick Falls are furious after they say they were cut from a water delivery list.

According to Saint Gobain, the week of September 4th, the church organization HACA sent a letter letting people know they would no longer be delivering water to those in need because Saint Gobain would be taking over that duty pursuant to this consent order between State DEC and Saint Gobain.

Loreen Hackett says she hasn’t received water in three weeks and is on disability for numerous ailments.

“I did not get a letter asking me to prove any disability. I’ve just gone without water for three weeks,” Hackett said.

Another Hoosick Falls woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, says she recently had two strokes and has arthritis. She says she too stopped getting water deliveries.

In a consent order, it states Saint Gobain shall provide bottled water delivery services to aged and infirmed town of Hoosick and Village residents after a request and justification has been submitted and approved by the village clerk.

Some are now concerned about being asked to provide medical information as part of their justification to receive water delivery.

“They have no right to my privacy,” the anonymous resident said.

“Saint Gobain is certainly not privy to my medical information,” Hackett said.

In a statement on Friday Mayor Dave Borge says:

“Some were removed from the delivery list because it was determined that they were not elderly or infirm. As far as I know, the Village received one complaint from a resident regarding the water deliveries. Once the Village became aware of the individual’s interest in continuing to receive water deliveries, she was placed back on the delivery list.”
