SCOTIA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The owners of the former Dairy circus say they will not be rebuilding.

The owner said he thought he had enough insurance for the place, but apparently there was not. The cost to rebuild is too much.

The owners say they are going to list the property and see what they can get it for it. They also mentioned they might open up a new business down the road.

Dairy Circus in Scotia went into shambles after a mysterious started upstairs in the building.

“This has been one of the corner stones of the Village of Scotia,” Scotia Fire Chief Kenneth Almy said. “Everybody has probably eaten here at one time or another.”

While no one was injured by the fire, memories of the popular ice cream spot have been hurt.

Five fire departments responded to try and save the neighborhood icon, but by the time they arrived, smoke and flames were already visible from the ceiling. Crews immediately got to work dousing the flames.

But it was too little too late.

“The Clemons family has owned this building for years, and they do a lot for the community, so it’s a pretty devastating thing to see,” Almy said.

Dairy Circus was also a location used during the filming of the 2012 independent film“The Place Beyond the Pines” starring Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes.

It was demolished at the end of April.
