NYS Budget: Updated legislation regarding tobacco and nicotine use

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Governor Cuomo is taking unprecedented steps to combat the use of harmful tobacco and nicotine products across New York State.

The budget prohibits the sale or distribution of e-cigarette or vape products that are flavored unless approved as part of the FDA pre-market approval which:

Prohibits the sale of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, in all pharmacies,
Restricts the delivery of e-liquid products only to NYS-licensed vape retailers
Restricts the public display of tobacco and vape products near schools
Requires manufacturers of vape products to disclose to the DOH Commissioner and the public, information about the ingredients by-products, or contaminates in vape products whether intentionally or unintentionally added
Bans certain carrier oils if they are found to be harmful
Bans coupons and manufacturer discounts and displays in shops
Increases penalties for illegally selling tobacco products to minors

Police arrest Amsterdam woman for alleged involvement in stabbing incident

MOHAWK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office arrested Angelica Orengo, 45, of Amsterdam, N.Y. for her alleged involvement in a stabbing incident that sent one woman to the hospital.

Police say on January 14, the sheriff's office received a call about a woman that had reportedly been stabbed on State Highway 30A in the Town of Mohawk. The victim had been taken to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville with stab wounds to the left chest and left leg.

Siena poll: New Yorkers say worst of the pandemic is still to come

LOUNDONVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Results of a recent Siena Research Institute poll show that by a 55-31 percent margin, New Yorkers say the worst of the coronavirus pandemic is still tocome, rather than over.

Seven percent of New Yorkers say they have already been vaccinated and among those who have not, 69 percent say they plan to get vaccinated and 27 percent say they do not, according to the poll.

17-year-old crashes into parked car after ‘recklessly speeding,’ results in 3 damaged cars

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (NEWS10) - On Jan. 19 at 1:35 a.m., Saugerties Police responded to a 911 call reporting a vehicle crash in front of 61 Mike Kraut Rd. in Saugerties. Ulster County 911 reported that a vehicle had crashed into a residence and that the vehicle was on fire and occupants were entrapped.

Upon arrival, officers found all occupants were out of the vehicle. After investigation, it was found that the driver, a 17-year-old female from Saugerties, was driving a 1998 Honda and "recklessly" speeding northbound on Mike Kraut Rd. The car veered off the westbound shoulder and into the yard of 61 Mike Kraut Rd. and collided with a parked, unoccupied vehicle. The parked vehicle then propelled into a second parked vehicle. The vehicle had not crashed into the residence as initially reported.
