NYRA hosts job fair for Saratoga race track season

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) –  The annual job fair for the track was held at City Center in Saratoga on Thursday.

From wait staff to betting clerks and security jobs, there were tons of jobs you could apply for.

Before you can head off to the races, the track needs to make sure it’s fully staffed.

“It certainly takes a village to put on the world class product that we offer,” Pat McKenna, New York Racing Association (NYRA) Communications Director, said.

McKenna says the track hires more than 2,000 people a season to make sure all aspects of the track run smoothly.

“Whether you’re pouring lemonade or cutting a turf course these are all important jobs.”

Some of the hopefuls include Daniel Epstein. He’s worked at the track more than five years and helps keep everything clean. This year he’s coming back for more.

“You meet a lot of people. Very friendly atmosphere and I just love working there,” Epstein said.

Sara Mroczkowski, who is hoping to be a server, says she’s looking for a job right out of college and says working at the track is the perfect way to make money while she’s on the search for her dream career.

“The pressure of having to find your first job once you get out of school. This kind of lets me relax a little bit.”

Ricky Winney, who worked at the track as a teenager, is now retired and is back for more.

“It’s exhilarating you meet a lot of people up here. It’s a nice place to work at. It’s very interesting.”

With the help of great employees, the track generates about $237 million for the economy.

This make it important to have the perfect staff as we come into the final stretch before the season starts.

“Everyone in this room is a crucial part of putting on the show that we put on each and every summer,” McKenna said.

When you come to fill out an application make sure you bring your photo ID and social security card with you.

The job fair goes until 6 p.m. on Thursday.
