Report: Gov. Cuomo still trying to win back Amazon

New York News

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is trying to win back Amazon after the company announced it was ending plans to build a second headquarters in New York City earlier this month.

The New York Times reports that Cuomo has even made a personal pitch to Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos.

The company planned to build the campus in Long Island City, Queens in exchange for nearly $3 billion in state and city tax breaks.

The decision to bring Amazon to New York did not come without controversy.

Some on New York City’s City Council have pushed back against the project and have even threatened to block it. Last week, a leading critic of the project was nominated to serve on a state board with the power to reject the project.

Amazon says it is disappointed to have the conclusion to not come to New York.
