More than $372 million in assistance is available to help New York residents heat their homes this winter.
According to the governor’s office, assistance is available to help older adults and low-and-middle-income New Yorkers heat their homes.
Assistance is determined by income, household size, and how the home is heated.
Last year, 1.4 million households received heating assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Program.
Applications for the program, which is funded 100 percent by the federal government, are accepted at local departments of social services.
The applications will be available beginning November 13 and will be accepted beginning January 2. Anyone in need of emergency assistance should contact their local department of social services.
