NY Microbead ban bill hits President Obama's desk

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Senator Kristen Gillibrand says a federal bill banning plastic microbeads has unanimously passed in the Senate and is now headed to President Obama's desk to be signed into law.

The bill would ban the manufacture, sale, or distribution of products containing the plastic beads.

Senator Gillibrand says they have the potential to cause serious ecological damage and have already polluted bodies of water here in New York.

Once President Obama signs the law the focus will shift to cleaning up the microbead mess.
