New York is poised to become the latest state to raise the legal age for buying tobacco products from 18 to 21.
The New York State Senate voted on Monday to approve the legislation known as Tobacco 21. The Assembly passed the bill in March.
Tobacco 21 increases the age to legally buy all tobacco products, including chews and e-cigarettes.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo supports the move. Once he signs the legislation, it will got into effect in120 days.
