WHITE CREEK, N.Y. (NEWS10) — State Police and Washington County Sheriffs responded around the 200-block of Jermain Hill Lane for a report of a landlord-tenant dispute. According to police, renter Matthew Parant, 38, of White Creek, was arrested after he shot at police and the property owner.

Police said their investigation determined that Parant got into an argument with the property owner, and after discovering police had been called, got a rifle from his home. Police said they were trying to talk to the property owner when Parant threatened to kill them, and then began to shoot.

The State Police Crisis Negotiations Unit was called in after Parant allegedly barricaded himself in the home with his girlfriend. Police said that at around 4:25 a.m., he tried to leave by driving away in a van.

Instead, he was stopped and arrested. Parant now faces the following charges:

  • Second-degree attempted murder (felony)
  • Two counts of first-degree attempted murder (both felonies)

No one was injured during the incident. The police investigation is ongoing, and police said that more charges are likely.
