BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office has a new tool to help them solve cold cases.

The website details open cases, pictures, and the latest information on where an investigation stands. Some of the cases date back to the 1980s.

Police now believe two cold cases are probably related. In March 2006, a teenager’s body was found in woods in Greenfield. A few years earlier, another teen’s body was found miles away.

“I just remember that evening getting home and having some police pull in my driveway right behind me,” Doug McCluskey said.

McCluskey was interviewed by police in 2006 about the young female’s body found in the woods near his home.

“Just a scary time,” he recalled. “Something that’s completely unexpected for the area.”

The remains were later identified as 19-year-old Christina White. She was reported missing in July 2005. Authorities knew she was stabbed to death, but they still don’t know who killed her.

It’s the same for 18-year-old Jennifer Hammond, who was reported missing in November 2003.

“Both girls were close in age,” Saratoga Co. Lt. Jeffrey Brown said. “18,19 years old. Both white females and both last seen in the area of West Milton.”

Hammond’s remains were found in October 2009 only four miles from where White’s remains were discovered off Lake Desolation Road. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office now says the homicides are probably connected.

“I just think there’s too many coincidences, too many similarities in the cases for them not to be related and have the suspect be the same person,” Lt. Brown said.

Police launched the new website with the hopes of getting new leads.

“Getting people talking about it,” Lt. Brown said. “Keep it fresh in people’s memories, and hopefully, somebody will come forward with some information.”

It’s a day many people in Greenfield are waiting for.

“I think it would be wonderful for the families to find some closure finally for what has happened,” McCluskey said.
