WalletHub calculated and ranked the generosity of each state. States were ranked on 18 variables including the volunteer rate, share of income donated, and share of sheltered homeless.

According to WalletHub, nearly 63 million people volunteer in the U.S., serving a combined 7.9 billion hours per year. That’s equivalent to $184 billion of service.
