A disturbing story out of Middletown is now under police investigation after a husband and wife found a bag with four dead puppies during a walk Sunday.
Sandra Renkiewicz and her husband, Joseph were walking when their dogs in a rural area along Preston Avenue when their two rescue dogs started pulling toward something in the woods.
Inside of a plastic grocery bag on top of wet leaves were four, black puppies just days old, deceased.
Sandra said she immediately knew something was terribly wrong and a heinous crime had been committed.
“I’m disgusted by it,” Renkiewicz said. “Who does this in the middle of winter to helpless little puppies. It’s disgusting and there are so many agencies that would have taken those pups.”
Sandra and her husband called police and animal control officers met them along the road. The puppies were placed on a blanket before being taken to a local vet to determine the cause of death. Officers said the pups had only been dead for a matter of hours.
Sandra wanted to get the story out there to hold whoever did this accountable.
“Someone knows their neighbor who had a dog who was pregnant and suddenly their puppies aren’t around or they’ve taken the mother to the vet and there are no puppies,” Sandra added. “Somebody must know something and hopefully we can get it out there and someone will come forward.”
Joseph Renkiewicz said the act was heartless and a horrible way to start a New Year.
“It’s heartbreaking, just heartbreaking.”
Middletown Police are investigating. They’re asking anyone with information to give them an animal control officer a call.
