California to ban hands free use of cell phones in cars

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — California may be the first state to ban hands free use of cell phones in cars.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the ban would far exceed current California laws which would prohibit texting and handling a phone while behind the wheel.

The head of the NTSB is urging lawmakers to be the first in the nation to pass the ban.

Federal traffic officials said that “hands free is not risk free.”

Distracted driving is the number one killer of teenage drivers, according to the NTSB.
