Actor wants to change the word for miscarriage

LOS ANGELES (ABC NEWS) - Actor James Van Der Beek is calling for a new name for pregnancy loss.

The “Dawson’s Creek” star revealed he and his wife have experienced three miscarriages. In an Instagram post, he states there needs to be a new word for it.

‘Miscarriage,’ in an insidious way, suggests fault for the mother – as if she dropped something or failed to ‘carry’…It has nothing to do with anything the mother did or didn’t do. So let’s wipe all blame off the table before we even start.”

Van Der Beek and his wife, Kimberly, welcomed their fifth child to the world earlier this summer, but he said over the past three years, the couple also lost three babies. Now, the actor most known for his role on “Dawson’s Creek,” is speaking about how he and his wife deal with that loss and encouraged others to do the same.

He wrote:

Many couples become closer than ever before. Many parents realize a deeper desire for a child than ever before. But please share whatever may have given you peace or hope along the way…along with a new word for this experience #miscarriage #WeNeedANewName”
