ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — A 91-year-old South Carolina man who went missing on Christmas was found dead after he reportedly tried repairing a pipe outside his home. Authorities were told that the man—later identified as Mavin Eugene Henley—went outside to check something and never returned.

According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Henley was reported missing from his home on Christmas night. His body was ultimately recovered outside on Monday afternoon.

Police said that their investigation determined that Henley went out at around 10 p.m. to try to repair a broken water pipe. They said that Henley came inside and changed some of his wet clothes at some point, then headed back outside to continue working on the busted pipe.

Henley’s body was found wet, and he was immersed in the extremely low temperatures throughout the night. His death was ruled accidental due to exposure.
