3 month old baby born without skin

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (WCMH) – Doctors within the state of Texas are working to discover what caused a baby to be born without most of his skin.

Baby Ja’bari Gray is without skin on parts of his head, arms, legs and torso.

Born on New Years Day, Gray currently remains in the Texas Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

At just 3 months old doctors believed he could potentially have Aplasia Cutis, a rare disease causing babies to be born with the absence of their skin.

While doctors are uncertain of the particular cause of the illness, both Ja’bari’s parents have undergone genetic testing to eliminate possible options.

Ja’ bari’s father expressed his extreme sadness of their son’s disorder and living condition. He also shared the difficulties of extreme measures that must be taken, simply for skin to skin touch.

According to the New York Post on Monday, hospital specialist determined that the baby is suffering from epidermolysis bullosa and not Aplasia Cutis.

Known as a rare genetic connective tissue disorder, epidermolysis bullosa illness affects only 20 newborns out of 1 million within the United States.

The family says they are hopeful and will continue to care for their child.
