Maserati and BMW auctioned off in Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — In the market for a new car? If you were at the Harriman State Office auction in Albany on Wednesday, you could have driven off in a pretty good one.

Usually, you come to an auction like the one on Wednesday and they have some old cars and a few other things, nothing too special.

That wasn’t the case on Wednesday. Wait until you see what they had.

Not rows and rows of old used cars.

“Aw jeez, you kidding me?” said Michael Hurt, who placed a bid on the car. “Driving in a Maserati convertible. It’d be great to drive that thing right until the first snowflake falls.”

A 2014 Maserati to be exact and on Wednesday, it was auctioned off. For the right price, of course.

“I’m prepared to go $50,000 on the car,” William Connelly said

“I’m going to throw a couple of bids on just to say I tried,” Hurt said

“I’d like to buy this for my loving wife as our anniversary gift,” Connelly said.  “If it doesn’t happen, so be it.”

“If I had the money to buy this car, I would go for it,” said Abduraheem. “This is not just a car, this is a super duper car.”

The car was seized by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s office after a case in the Bronx turned up $9.9 million in fraudulent Medicaid claims.

The money from the sale will go towards the medical fraud unit.

On Wednesday though, it was all about the Benjamins, and to get it, you’ll need a lot of them.

“If I had it, I’d buy it,” Abduraheem said. “I’d sell my house to buy it.”

“It’s a beautiful car. It’s spotless and it’s worth every dollar,” Connelly said. “I probably would just let my wife drive it, that’s the key to a successful marriage.”

Once the bidding started, it didn’t take long. A lucky guy got to drive away in style.

Most had enjoyed just giving it a shot.

“Oh, it’s fun! I’m just hoping I have enough money in my pocket to walk away with something,” Hurt said.

Others felt a little burnt out.

“Somebody just stole this car from the auction, that’s what they did,” Abduraheem said.

So in the end, this bad boy ended up going for $89,000 and that’s a little out of this reporter’s price range.
