Man allegedly set woman on fire in Virginia home, suspect on the loose

FAIRFAX, Va. (WJLA) — Firecrews and police lined the streets in a Fairfax County neighborhood early Saturday morning.

“The whole neighborhood was just a wash with lights blinking and flashing and whatnot from the police and the fire engines out there,” said neighbor Jerry Watson.

The front windows of the home were burned and boarded up. Police say fire crews were called to the scene around 1:40 a.m.

“We could see a lot of smoke coming up from the house out there,” Watson said.

After putting out the fire, crews found a 64-year-old woman who was “badly burned.”

“This is just one of those things that you would never expect to happen in your neighborhood,” Watson said.

Neighbors who awoke to the flames, smoke, and sirens are still in shock.

“You don’t really expect that, especially from this neighborhood, again it’s very quiet and everybody is usually tight and everyone here is a great community,” said neighbor Gezae Berhane.

Police say an arrest warrant was issued for Lewis Edward Reeder for allegedly setting the woman on fire. Police believe the couple got into an argument and he set the woman on fire.

“To hear that, you just pray and hope that both of them are okay,” Berhane added.
