ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Sunoco announced 14 national grand prize winners of their free fuel 5,000 contest, and one of the lucky winners is from Albany.

When her boyfriend gave her one of the free stickers he picked up at the local Sunoco to cover a scratch on her car, little did she know her holidays were about to run a whole lot smoother.

”He pulls out the decal and he sticks it on the car and literally a few days later,” Lakita Roberts said.

A woman spots her at the Delaware Avenue Price Chopper and ran out to tell her she was an instant winner of a $10 gift card and would be entered to win a grand prize drawing for $5,000 in free fuel.

“I literally almost screamed at her because I thought she was joking!”

The Fuel 5000 contest rewards Sunoco customers who proudly display the same decal found on their favorite NASCAR racecars. Even though Lakita was spotted at Sunoco partner Price Chopper, she needs to fuel up often for her seven-day a week job.

“She spends her life driving around from place to place supporting her mom, her child and doing home health care for people who really need it,” Jeff Shields, Sunoco Communications Manager, said.

When Lakita won the grand prize, she couldn’t believe that a fender bender that caused the damage hidden by that little bumper sticker would ultimately relieve some stress.“It’s just going to be a big help. Y’all don’t understand how much of a big help this is going to be and I’m thankful, I’m really thankful.”

“It’s just going to be a big help. Y’all don’t understand how much of a big help this is going to be and I’m thankful, I’m really thankful.”

If you are wondering if she is even a NASCAR fan she says she is to the grave and back.

As for the boyfriend who gave her the sticker she says he gets none of the winnings.
