Police arrested a woman they said threw a puppy out of a window in Canajoharie.
Police said 28-year-old Joanne Hoose threw a 7-month-old puppy out of a second story window. It was the quick thinking of another woman that may be the reason why the puppy is alive.
“I don’t even remember my feet hitting the ground,” Elizabeth Snyder said. “I just remember scooping him up off of the ground, scooping him up off the pavement.”
“I didn’t think about a car coming another way, this car coming another way, or someone in the building,” she continued. “I don’t know what kind of people are there.”
The dog, named Wrinkles, suffered a broken femur on one of its back legs and five broken bones on its front leg, according to police. He will undergo surgery on Friday.
“It was the most devastating thing I have ever seen or encountered in my life,” Snyder said.
Hoose was charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
The Montgomery County SPCA is taking on the costs of Wrinkles’s surgeries, which are upwards of $5,000. The organization already received several calls from people asking to donate to those costs. Some have even asked to adopt him.
“It’s phenomenal,” shelter manager Anthonio Baker said. “People not even meeting him, yet, you know. Just hearing of his tragic story and they just want to bring him to a better home.”
“I would just love someone to take him at some place at Christmas, and he would be there at the time and he’d be under their tree, and you know, running around having little snacks and that’s where I’d love to see him,” Snyder said.
“That’s my goal – getting him in that forever home.”
Police are now going through surveillance footage.
The investigation is ongoing.
