Falling tree crushes Whitehall water main; boil water order in effect

Local

WHITEHALL, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Heavy storms led to flooding and a crushed water main in the Village of Whitehall Monday evening.

According to village officials, a falling tree crushed a 14-inch water main located in the woods. As a result, the village had to shut down the water system, and crews had to go into the woods during an evening storm to conduct emergency repairs.

A boil water advisory is also in effect until further notice.

As the storm passed through Whitehall, flooding also took over the village. In just a few hours, close to 6 inches of rain fell. Town Hall, Village Hall and the high school are flooded as well as several residential basements.

One family needed help being removed from their home, officials said.

Broadway is closed.

Officials will be out Tuesday morning for a more comprehensive survey of the damage.
