If you see more police in the area around the Saratoga Performing Arts Center this week, don’t be alarmed, it’s all part of a weeklong active shooter training exercise beginning on Monday.
Up to 25,000 people could attend any given concert at SPAC, and with the large crowds come concerns that the concert area could become an easy target.
Starting Monday, local, state, and county law enforcement agencies are preparing in case the worst ever does happen. The weeklong exercise is similar to drills seen at local schools and other public facilities recently.
You may notice a heavy police presence in the area around SPAC inside the Saratoga Spa State Park and could even hear simulated gunfire throughout the week beginning each morning at 8:30 am.
The entire fenced-in area will be closed to the public during the training. The last exercise will be held Friday at 5:30 pm.
