Trucks plunge through ice into Lake George

Two pickup trucks fell through the ice on Lake George over President’s Day weekend.

The Department of Enviornmental Conservation says the drivers made it out safely, and no fluids from the trucks leaked into the water.

The DEC is warning anglers, snow mobilers and skaters to use extreme caution on the ice, especially as Spring approaches.

A Lietenant with DEC says different vehicles require different ice thicknesses.

  • 12-15 inches for trucks
  • 10-12 inches for cars
  • 5-8 inches for snow mobiles
  • At least 4 inches for a person
