Three dead, two escape fatal fire in Pittsfield

Berkshire County DA Andrea Harrington has confirmed that three died in Lake Onota Village in Pittsfield.

The victims have been identified as Austin F. Grzelak, 25, and Kasper and Sylas Stone, 6-year-old twins.  The twins were residents of the home.

The fire began around 3:40 a.m. Saturday morning at 11 Lakewood Circle.  Officials say the fire started from a candle or smoking material in the master bedroom.

Two people were able to escape the home, one of which, required medical treament for non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The home was heavily damage, and a nearby residents also sustained some damage.

“There is no evidence of criminal activity,” the District Attorney said. “This remains under investigation, although at this time we do not consider this to be a suspicious fire.”

The investigation is ongoing and will be handled by the Pittsfield Fire Department, Pittsfield Police Department, members of the State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshall, and detectives from the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office.
