On Tuesday, Common Council President Rich Mooney was sworn-in as Rensselaer’s new mayor.
Mooney said his first order of business is to focus on Former Mayor Dan Dwyer’s funeral. After that, he wants to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor.
“I will do what I can for the city,” stated Mooney. “The city will always come first in my eyes.”
City leaders are looking over the city charter to determine if there needs to be a special election, or if Mooney can finish Dwyer’s term. Mooney said he learned a lot from Mayor Dwyer, and wants to remain in office.
“He was everybody’s father figure,” explained Mooney. “He was the go to guy. If you needed something, you go to the mayor.”
Mayor Dwyer’s wake will be held on Sunday at Lion’s Funeral Home from 3-8pm. The funeral will be held at St. John’s Church in Rensselaer on Monday.
