Students weigh in on school budget vote

JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Johnstown High School students are weighing in on the upcoming school budget, speaking to the importance of extra activities. As athletes, they say sports are a huge part of their high school experience.

Sports, along with kindergarten and other non-mandated activities, could be on the chopping block. Superintendent Trish Kilburn says there’s a huge gap in funding since taxes have been kept low for more than a decade.

The budget proposes a 35 percent tax levy increase. The vote happens on Monday, May 21 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the high school.
