Students at the Brown School recognized service men and women with a special ceremony Friday morning.
The kids prepared creative performances including songs and poetry readings to thank veterans in the community. The school has been putting on this Veteran’s Day ceremony for over ten years, and say they were inspired by Gold Star Father, John McKenna.
At the event, McKenna told NEWS10 ABC, “It’s up to us civilians to tell [kids] and to teach them what it was like. Otherwise they would never know the foundation of how we became such a great country.”
The students also create artwork to be displayed in McKenna’s “Courtesy Room,” at Albany International Airport. The room is dedicated to McKenna’s son, Capt. John McKenna IV, who was killed serving in Iraq. You can learn more about the Courtesy Room.
