Running late to work? You had better resist the urge to speed because officers will be out and about starting Wednesday cracking down on those driving too fast.
The latest “Speed Week” enforcement campaign begins Wednesday and runs through next week. This campaign is not limited to state, county, or local roads; This is a statewide speeding crackdown.
According to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s traffic safety committee, August of 2016 was the deadliest month for speed-related crashes in New York. Nearly 40 people were killed. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says three out of every ten drivers are self-professed “speeders.”
During this same enforcement campaign time last year, New York State Police issued more than 21,000 tickets, the bulk of those for speeding. Police also issued hundreds of tickets to drivers who were distracted or impaired.
Tune in all Wednesday morning as NEWS10 ABC’s Samantha DiMascio rides along with a sergeant from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office as he patrols the roads.
