To combat the growing number of robocalls, Senator Brad Hoylman, Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou, and several others came together to announce the Robocall Prevention Act.
The bill would ban anyone from using automatic dialing technology to contact New Yorkers for commercial purposes without their permission. It would also require phone companies to offer free services to prescreen the calls.
State officials are hoping to pass the bill once the budget is complete.
