On Wednesday, the New York State Gaming Commission posted regulations online to legalize sports betting and is now taking public comment.
The federal government overturned a previous ruling a year ago, now 4 commercial casinos in New York are asking the gaming commission to have sports wagering. Those casinos include the Rivers casino in Schenectady, del Lago, Tioga downs, and Empire Resorts.
“A big step towards having sports wagering in the building happened today,” explained Justin Moore, Acting General Manager and Vice President of the Rivers Casino. “In which the gaming regulations were posted for public comment on the state register. Those regs are going to be on there for 60 days for public comment.”
“If there are no substantial changes, hopefully those regulations will be adopted and sports betting can begin,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara.
The Rivers casino plans to focus primarily on football, basketball, baseball and golf.
It also plans on renovating this space to include multiple high definition televisions, so people can watch the games as they’re happening.
“This is huge! This is gonna make everything we do more relabent, exciting fun,” said Moore. ” It’s gonna bring a lot of new people to the Capital Region just for sports wagering.”
