Spectrum customers now need more than cable to watch TV

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Until now, Spectrum customers could receive a limited cable signal without a converter box. Now that Spectrum is transmitting all of its television programming digitally, it now seems those days are over.

Many Spectrum households have digital TV's that are hooked up to converter boxes, so they can get premium channels and DVR service, but they might have had another TV or two, they wanted to hold onto, and they could simply screw a coaxial cable into the back of their set to watch basic channels.

Dan Mazurkiewicz, General Manager for Stereo Advantage, says the new “all digital’ cable is designed to improve service.

“Maybe the large family room TV has their DVR, all their channels.  Whereas the bedroom, they would look at that as a secondary TV and think they don't need it.  Now, they are going to need it, or they are going to need that converter.”

A spokesman for Spectrum says they have completed the all-digital conversion in most of the markets they serve everywhere else in the country, except Western New York.

Some customers will get their converter box, and Spectrum will waive their monthly fee for up to five years, depending on their financial circumstances, while other existing customers would have to pay as much as $11.75 a month.

For more information on the new digital service, you can call Spectrum at 1-844-278-3906, or click onto their “Digital Now” website.
