SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Fire crews responded to a structure fire on Rugby Road in Schenectady at around 2 a.m.
When they arrived on scene, flames were climbing the second floor and shooting through the roof.
Fortunately, the house was empty at the time and no injuries occurred. However, the house is a total loss.
Fire crews were able to knock down the fire within an hour and a half despite the cold weather.
The water used to fight the fire froze due to the cold temperatures, and a salt truck was called in to salt Rugby Road.
"Y'know the water freezes; it's slippery. There's a lot of ice right now we do have a salt truck on the way. Right now we're picking up hose, our hose freezes, so it creates a lot more work for us but at this point things are going pretty smooth," said Schenectady Fire Chief Raymond Senecal.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
